State Senator Patty Ritchie has announced she has secured $200,000 in special funding to help the city of Fulton and the town of Granby in their work to dredge Lake Neatahwanta and ultimately make the body of water usable again. This most recent support, which comes just days before dredging is slated to begin, builds upon $200,000 secured last year by Senator Ritchie; bringing the two year total to $400,000.
Leland O. Getman, 92, of Hannibal, passed away Thursday August 21, 2014, at home following a brief illness.
The New York Biomass Energy Alliance/NYBEA has begun expanding its outreach and education program through the recent award of $250,000 in U.S. Forest Service State Wood Energy Team funding. NYBEA is at the 2014 Great New York State Fair in the Center of Progress Building with information on practical incentives available to convert residences and businesses to local, sustainable bioenergy.
When a five-year-old Fulton boy wanted to help the library he loves, his budding entrepreneurial spirit inspired him to do what kids can do when they want to fund a project – he offered to open a lemonade stand. Declan Nickerson approached Fulton Public Library children’s coordinator Janelle Wallace with his idea. “I was touched when Declan came to me with the idea of a lemonade stand and his desire to give the money to the library,” Wallace said.
Annette M. Donovan, 53, a resident of Middle Road, Oswego, passed away Wednesday August 20, 2014, at Crouse Hospital, Syracuse.
Kreig Heroth revved up the Fulton CYO Summer Program recently. The popular Oswego Speedway driver made an appearance at the program earlier this month. He brought along his racecar, to the delight of the program’s participants – and staff. Heroth allowed the children to take pictures of his car. He also signed autographs and handed out Oswego Speedway programs.
Faye L. Wallace, 73, of Fulton, died Tuesday evening August 19, 2014, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Syracuse.
Seventy-five animal lovers celebrated the Oswego County Humane Society’s 15th birthday at Bayshore Grove. In addition to the great food, there were lawn games, music, a silent auction, a closest to the pin golf contest and a raffle for a $500 lottery scratch off board. Donna Kuhn, president of the Humane Society Board of Directors summed up the day, “It was wonderful to see so many new and old faces celebrating our work with pets and their people and just plain having fun. We appreciate everyone’s loyal support.”
This week, it was announced that Doug and Sherry Heveron will also post a $500 bonus to the Classic bubble car, in memory of Tom and Gail Heveron, raising the prize money awarded to the first non-qualifier to a sizable $1,000.
