Ticket renewals for the upcoming 58th annual Budweiser International Classic Weekend at Oswego Speedway August 29-31 will close at the end of business on August 18. Renewal forms have been available for reserved seating on all three days of Budweiser International Classic Weekend since last year’s running of the richest and most prestigious Supermodified race in the world.
Oswego County STOP-DWI Coordinator Robert Lighthall announced that Oswego County police agencies will participate in a special enforcement effort to crackdown on impaired driving. While we spend the Labor Day holiday and the end of summer celebrating with our loved ones, law enforcement officers across New York State will take to the roads in an effort to stop impaired driving, prevent injuries and save lives.
On a recent afternoon, residents of Bishop’s Commons and St. Francis Commons boarded an old fashioned trolley for a tour of sites of historical significance in and around the Oswego area. Local historian Justin White joined the passengers and provided unique insights into the various points of interest on a journey, as the trolley made its way from one side of the city, across the river, to the other.
Participants in Oswego County BOCES’ Stepping Stones Day Program had their appetites for knowledge satisfied during a recent lesson in agriculture. Armed with a variety of farm-fresh products, Oswego County 4-H Program educator Debbie Halliday shared her expertise with students on the Blue Team in Robyn Yorker’s class.
With a growing focus on the science, technology, engineering and mathematics fields, students in the Fulton City School District recently had a chance to explore these areas of study during a summer robotics program. The four-week program for eighth and ninth-grade students challenged participants to use their imaginations and knowledge to create robots capable of picking up objects and performing other tasks.

Students in a SUNY Oswego landscape photography class will display their work exploring humans’ relationship to the natural environment, starting with a free public reception for the artists from 5 to 7 p.m. Sept. 5, at Tyler Art Gallery @ Oswego State Downtown. The exhibition, titled “Imaging the Landscape: Forms, Histories and Interventions,” will run through Oct. 4 at the gallery in Oswego State Downtown, a branch of the College Store at the corner of West First and Bridge streets in Oswego.
With a fourth place finish in last weekend’s Novelis Supermodified main event, Otto Sitterly has regained the series point lead in search of his historical seventh Speedway title. Despite a point penalty earlier this season which withdrew 19 markers from Sitterly’s overall total, the driver of the Nicotra Racing No. 7 has rebounded, now leading championship runner-up Dave Gruel by 7 points.
