SUNY Oswego faculty-student team producing stress-reduction app

Dr. Karen Wolford of SUNY Oswego’s psychology department recently won a $50,000 National Science Foundation I-Corps grant to assist development of a mobile app to help people with anxiety disorders. First offered in 2011, I-Corps grants seek to help entrepreneurs — such as human-computer interaction graduate student Arthur Delsing, a former student and now a colleague of Wolford’s — bring technological innovations such as the stress-reduction app to market.

Bark For Life: Man’s Best Friend Supports Cancer Society

They are there for every birthday, every laugh, and every tear. They are silent, constant companions when nothing is certain but a cancer diagnosis. Dogs are the unnoticed caregivers who give a special kind of support for cancer patients. The American Cancer Society’s Bark For Life of Parish/Pulaski is a walk for dogs and their owners to fight back against cancer at Selkirk State Park New York 3 Pulaski, on Sept. 27.

Local Woodworker Makes , Donates Dollhouse to Oswego Hospital Auxiliary

Oswego’s Curt Klemenz, an avid woodworker, has made and donated a Victorian dollhouse to the Oswego Hospital Auxiliary Bazaar. The fall bazaar will be held from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. October 8 and 9 in the hospital lobby. The bazaar offers many booths selling various items including baked goods, jewelry, RADA Cutlery, homemade crafts, as well as many themed basket donated by hospital departments.

County To Distribute KI To Residents Of Emergency Planning Zone

Oswego County will hold two “KI Distribution Days” in Oswego and Mexico to distribute potassium iodide (KI) to people who live in the 10-mile emergency planning zone surrounding the nuclear power plants in Scriba. The county will distribute one 65mg tablet for every child weighing less than 150 pounds, and two 65mg tablets (totaling 130mg) for every adult in a household.

Mexico Cub Scouts Assisted State Fair Shipwrecks Exhibit

The scouts helped young visitors dig for prizes in the Treasure Chest daily in the 60-foot exhibit tent located in the mini-NY State Park at the Syracuse Fairgrounds. New York Sea Grant and The Great New York State Fair developed the exhibit in partnership with the Great Lakes Seaway Trail, H. Lee White Maritime Museum of Oswego and others.
