John and I loved many things about Tailwater Lodge. I love old buildings that have found new life as something entirely different. Such is the case of the Altmar Elementary School. This is the third school turned hotel we have stayed at, but the only one that is not even remotely recognizable as a former school. School-to-hotel is not a quantum leap.
The Oswego County Probation Department is experiencing delays in service to customers as a result of a power outage that occurred at the Oswego County Public Safety Center Sept. 5. The Public Safety Center experienced an unusual power failure which caused the computer servers to go off-line, and the Probation Department has been unable to access information and data critical to day-to-day operations.
Route 11 in the village of Pulaski, which had been closed for the past eight days for an urgently needed culvert replacement project, was re-opened to traffic today (Sept. 12) at 2:15 pm, as scheduled.
The Fulton Medical Center will host an American Red Cross blood drive from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. September 19 in the healthcare facility’s lower level conference room. Members of the public are encouraged to donate a pint of blood during the drive.
Oswego State’s student-athletes, along with Dr. Jerald Woolfolk, vice president of student affairs, took the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge following the men’s soccer game on Wednesday afternoon. A few hundred Laker athletes came to the event after being challenged two weeks ago by the college’s president, Deborah Stanley.
Unforeseen circumstances have forced a one-week postponement of Wednesday’s scheduled Ke-Nekt Chamber Music Series season opener. The concert, featuring Brahms’ sonatas for violin and piano, now will take place at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 24, in Sheldon Hall ballroom.

Joan Newell, MD, is being welcomed to Oswego Hospital’s medical staff and Port City Family Medicine, located at 33 E. Schuyler St., in Oswego. Dr. Newell earned her medical degree from the University of Vermont and completed her internal medicine residency at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH.
