Drummer Dafnis Prieto, a native of Cuba, brings his percussive virtuosity and Latin jazz So o Si Quartet to SUNY Oswego’s Hewitt Union ballroom at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 23. Since his arrival in New York 15 years ago, the two-time Grammy nominee and MacArthur Fellow has gained an international following as an innovative jazz instrumentalist and composer. Prieto has released five albums and created music for dance, film and his own bands. He is best known for the high energy of his live performances.
Oswego Lions Club will hold its ninth annual “Cow Chip Bingo” fundraiser on September 13 at Lighthouse Lanes in Oswego. The “Cow Chip Bingo” will take place on a special field that will be sectioned off into 520 square yard plots. “Deeds” are being sold for $5 for each square yard plot. Once “Poopsie” the cow is released onto the field, whoever owns the plot that “Poopsie” fertilizes, will walk away with $500.

The program is scheduled for September 13 at 1:30 p.m. at the museum located in Oswego’s Historic Maritime District.
Except for a quick break Tuesday (Sept. 2) to meet the state senator, the Groh Dredging & Marine team has been hard at work pulling sediment from the bottom of Lake Neatahwanta since dredging began July 25 and grid one is expected to be finished any day. Several scientific surveys conducted in the past two decades indicate that dredging is the next step to helping the little lake by the big lake recover from its current unhealthy state.
Oswego councilors gave favorable recommendations to several resolutions at the committee level this week. Included were several transfers of funds and some requests to travel. They all will be voted on Monday by the full council.
With another podium finish in the ISMA Super Nationals during Budweiser International Classic Weekend, Canadian front runner Mike Lichty earned enough championship points to be declared the Shea Concrete ‘Steel Palace’ ISMA Super Series champion for the second consecutive year in the PATCO Transportation/Reed’s Salvage No. 84. For the second season Oswego Speedway, ISMA, and Shea Concrete partnered for the special ‘Steel Palace’ championship series, with a handsome $5,000 point fund on the line for the top five driver’s in the Oswego only series championship.
