Central Square Woman arrested on Sex Abuse Charges

On September 18, State Police in Fulton arrested Crystal M. West, 30, from Central Square, for one count of Criminal Sex Act 2nd, two counts of Sexual Abuse 3rd and one count of Endangering the Welfare of a Child. West is accused of engaging in sexual conduct with a 14-year-old girl on more than occasion in the towns of Hastings and Mexico.

Roker to broadcast two shows from SUNY Oswego

Members of the Central New York community are welcome to join the Weather Channel and NBC “Today” show festivities beginning at 5:30 a.m. Oct. 16, at SUNY Oswego. Al Roker, a 1976 Oswego graduate, is scheduled to broadcast his remotes for NBC’s “Today” show from the college’s Marano Campus Center as well as the entire “Wake Up with Al” show on the Weather Channel.

At Granby Elementary School, it is rocket science

Granby Elementary School sixth graders began the school year as students and transformed into rocket scientists during the first month of class. According to sixth grade teacher Joe McNamara, the unit about rocketry and Newton’s Laws of Motion serves as a great “launching pad” for the entire school year. “As fifth graders last year, many of these students watched the older kids launch rockets,” McNamara said. “They’ve been looking forward to this since Day 1.”

Oswego Jazz Project to introduce new bassist in Oct. 19 concert

Oswego Jazz Project will perform a dozen numbers and introduce the quartet’s new bassist at 3 p.m. Oct. 19, in Sheldon Hall Ballroom in a concert for the SUNY Oswego music department’s Focus on Faculty Series. The ensemble consists of music department faculty members Eric Schmitz (drums), Trevor Jorgensen (saxophone), Robert Auler (piano) and new bassist Danny Ziemann.

Bus Drivers and Crossing Guards Appreciation Day Held At Leighton School

On September 26, the Staff and Home and School Association of Leighton Elementary honored the people who keep their students and children safe each day arriving and departing from school. Bus drivers and crossing guards were invited for coffee and doughnuts, followed by meetings with children to discuss safety. A matrix, which outlines Leighton’s school expectations of being respectful, responsible, problem solvers and in self control, was used to initiate conversations.

12th Annual Lions Loot Sweepstakes Moved To April 2015

The Fulton Lions Club’s 12th annual “Lions Loot” sweepstakes has been moved to April 19, 2015. The event has traditionally been in November and the change in date is due, in part, to how closely Lions Loot has fallen to the club’s September Duck Derby. The event drawings are scheduled for 1 p.m. April 19, 2015 at the Fulton Polish Home.
