Modifications Announced To The Fisherman Alert System At Varick Hydro Facility

In order to maintain a safe environment while addressing some concerns of the city of Oswego and its residents, Brookfield Renewable will be performing modifications and upgrades to the Fisherman Alert System at the Varick Hydro Facility. They will be testing and implementing these changes over the next few days. These changes will reduce the impact of the alarm on the surrounding community, while continuing to promote the safety of fishermen in the area.

This month, our nation “goes pink” in honor of those who are fighting breast cancer and those who have lost their lives to the disease as well as to raise awareness among women about steps that can be taken to stay healthy. Breast cancer is the second most common type of cancer affecting women and it’s estimated that roughly one in eight women born today in the United States will be diagnosed with breast cancer at some point in their lives.

Every Dog Has Its Day Set October 19

“Every Dog Has Its Day” on October 19 when the Oswego County Humane Society holds its annual 5K run or walk and 1 mile family walk at Fallbrook Recreation Center, 103 Thompson Road, with sign in starting at 11 a.m. and races starting at noon. Dogs are welcome and each one will receive its own dog scarf. In addition to the run and walk, there will be children’s activities and games, face painting, an airhop inflatable, pet contests and a kids only silent auction.

AmeriCorps Donates Audio Books to Head Start Program

Head Start received a generous donation of recorded classic children’s books for the preschool children.
Elizabeth Russell, an Oswego County AmeriCorps member based out of the Phoenix Public Library, organized a summer reading program for children and teenagers. Russell’s community project was recording audio books of classic children’s literature.
