The theme this year for Fire Prevention Week is “Working Smoke Alarms Save Lives.” Oswego Firefighters are reminding the public that a smoke alarm should be installed in every bedroom, outside every sleeping area, and on every level of your home.

Sculptor to offer sizzling demonstration during molten-iron pour

A sculptor’s iron pour will light up the night at SUNY Oswego, starting at 6 p.m. Oct. 16. Artist Edward Kelley of Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa — one of six sculptors whose work was chosen for a new outdoor exhibition at the college — will demonstrate the fiery skill used by sculptors working with ferrous metals.

Haist Claims Oswego Pumpkin Crown – Sets State Record … Twice

UPDATE: Oswego winner breaks his own state record.
As Mother Nature’s rain ended Saturday afternoon, Karl Haist’s reign was just beginning. Haist, of Clarence Center, NY, won the 2014 edition of the Annual CNY Great Pumpkin Festival with an entry tipping the scales at 1,725.5 pounds. Not only is it the Oswego top pumpkin, but it’s also the new New York State record. “I’m kind of surprised. I knew it was real big but I didn’t think it was this heavy,” Haist told Oswego County Today. “It feels good to have the state record, too!”

Harvest Turkey Dinner Set At Minetto UMC

Harvest season means that turkey will highlight the menu at the annual Harvest Turkey Dinner at the Minetto United Methodist Church on October 18 beginning at 4 p.m. Customers who prefer to eat at home can go inside for carryout service or use the drive-through take-out line. They just pull into the parking lot from Empire Avenue and give their order to an attendant who radios it inside.
