Oswego County Opportunities’ Cancer Services Program Partnership wrapped up its Breast Cancer Awareness month activities by creating its fifth annual human pink ribbon in Oswego County. More than 150 people, dressed in pink, gathered in the parking lot of the Pulaski Health Center to form the breast cancer awareness ribbon.

Oswego County’s Treatment Court Program has been in existence since August 1999. The program is structured to give non-violent offenders who have a history of substance abuse the opportunity to rebuild their lives. This week, 12 more men and women successfully completed the rigorous program.
The Friends of Oswego County Hospice will host its fourth annual “Lights of Remembrance” memorial tree lighting on Dec. 4 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the Oswego County Federal Credit Union on Scenic Avenue in Mexico. “The holiday season is a time for us to look back on the special people we’ve lost, that were part of our yearly celebrations. We hope that people can take some time out of their busy schedules to honor the memory of their loved ones,” said Deb Bishop, executive director of the Friends of Oswego County Hospice.
Bonnie L. McRae, 70, of Oswego, passed away Tuesday evening November 11, 2014, with her loving family by her side.
Mayor Tom Gillen reported that the city has received an opinion from its counsel, Bond, Schoeneck & King, PLLC, that the lawsuit commenced by Thomas Millar (regarding the former Cahill / Coleman building) has no merit or legal basis. While the litigation is pending, the city is working with expert structural engineers, who have recommended a course of action to arrest further deterioration of the building.
Dr. Margaret Noodin, an expert on the culture of the Ojibwe nation of Native Americans, will offer a free talk at 6 p.m., Nov. 20, in the Marano Campus Center auditorium about this year’s Oswego Reading Initiative book, Louise Erdrich’s “The Round House.”
In February 2008, Oswego County and ProAct implemented a free prescription drug discount card program for all county residents. Over the course of six years, Oswego County residents have combined to save over $7.5 million on nearly 214,000 prescriptions. Oswego County is one of more than 50 counties in New York who have endorsed the ProAct administered program to provide lower costing prescriptions for their residents.
Military Times has named SUNY Oswego to its “Best for Vets” colleges ranking for 2015. SUNY Oswego is No. 69 among 100 four-year colleges and universities on the list. Oswego is one of only two SUNY institutions on the Military Times list; Plattsburgh is the other.
