U.S. Senators Charles E. Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand announced that the New York State Canal Flood Warning System has received $1,483,125 in federal funding from the Federal Emergency Management Agency for the installation of rain and stream gauges along the Mohawk River, Oswego River and Upper Hudson River Basin.
The 15th annual fundraiser for the county’s sole Catholic School went to record lengths this year to name a winner. In the end, FSB earned its 8th title out of 15 spelling bees. Both the winners and runners-up vow to return in 2015 – and win!
The Oswego State men’s ice hockey team used two, three-goal periods to fend off Cortland 6-4 on Saturday night in front of a sellout crowd in the Marano Campus Center Arena. With the win, the nationally-ranked Lakers stay a perfect 3-0-0 both overall and in SUNYAC action
The Oswego State women’s ice hockey team suffered its first conference defeat of the 2014-15 campaign with a 3-1 loss to Cortland in the Marano Campus Center Arena on Saturday afternoon. Oswego’s record fell to 2-2-0 overall and 1-1-0 in ECAC West play after the weekend split with the Red Dragons.
Although snowflakes were in the air Friday outside of Minetto Elementary School, thoughts of the beach, playing outside and catching some rays danced in the minds of students in Jill Noel’s class.

John C Birdlebough High School Concert Chorus performed in costume at its Fall Choral Concert. The concert theme was “Movie Music,” and the chorus sang songs from “Alice in Wonderland,” “Harry Potter” and “The Wizard of Oz.” To further the fun and fantasy of the songs, each member of the chorus dressed up in costume as a character from a movie.
The Oswego State women’s ice hockey team picked up its second-straight shutout win 4-0 over Cortland on Friday night in the Marano Campus Center Arena. With the win in their ECAC West-opener, the Lakers are now 2-1-0 on the year and 1-0-0 in conference action.
The Center for Instruction, Technology and Innovation had its Career and Technical Education open house recently and the students put on quite the show. The culinary program went all out providing several food demonstrations and tastings like “Knife Sharpening and Honing” and “Fabricating Chicken.” The smell of cookies drew families in from the hallways.
