One of the area’s most popular music groups, Long Time Coming, will add its classic rock sound to the CNY Great Pumpkin Festival with a live performance at 4 p.m., October 4 on the Great Pumpkin stage. Comprised of local musicians who have performed with several well-known local bands over the years, Long Time Coming formed in 2012 at the suggestion of bass player, Jim Dillabough.
A brand new event at the Lioness Club of Central Square Apple Festive in 2014 will be Wooly-Worm Racing for status, for the ultimate in weather prediction and for prize money. The Oswego County Pioneer Search and Rescue Team will sponsor the inaugural Central New York Wooly-Worm Races at the 2014 Apple Festival September 27 and 28. The festival will be held north of the village of Brewerton at 154 US Route 11, Central Square.
The Oswego City School District has entered into a partnership that it hopes will create a “regional school,” Superintendent Ben Halsey said Tuesday night. “We have partnered with eight other districts; the Oswego County BOCES, Cayuga Community College, as well as three major manufacturers (Novelis, Huhtamaki and the Fulton Boiler Company) to apply for a state grant that has been made available for the funding of a tech regional high school,” he said. If formed it would have a total of 50 students per grade level – spread throughout the entire county.
Students at Granby Elementary danced the night away at the Family Kickoff Picnic on Sept. 11. Sponsored by the Parent-Teacher Group, the evening was a huge success with large attendance from students and their families.
Another Level Youth Center is planning a free, family-friendly concert at Quirk Park, in conjunction with Friends of Fulton Parks. The Friends’ mission includes encouraging community events in the parks. Local musicians including “Second Story” and “Awaken” will perform from noon to 4 p.m. on September 27.
Bicknell Racing Products out of St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada, will once again be stepping up in a big way for the Modified and Sportsman teams during the 29th Annual Sunoco Fulton Ethanol Facility Outlaw 200 Weekend presented by SUNY Canton at the Fulton Speedway on October 3-4.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo recently announced awards for SUNY’s workforce development programs at 37 colleges and universities, including $85,800 toward Oswego’s planned interdisciplinary graduate degree in informatics and a $62,600 continuation award for engineering.
