Third graders at Leighton Elementary School did something special for an impoverished community this past holiday season. They had been reflecting on their ELA and Social Studies unit theme, which talked about how communities help each other learn and grow, and the importance of learning, in general.
Volney Elementary School classroom role models were selected by their teachers as students who best represented this month’s character education trait of Tolerance. Principal Lisa Garafola defined tolerance as accepting others’ differences and announced the following students as outstanding examples of that trait for the month of January:

In the Hannibal Central School District, progressive thinking, innovative strategies and a team mentality have taken hold since the implementation of the Strategic Plan last June. The plan outlines the mission, beliefs and goals for the district over the next five years, and has been fueled by the work of community members, teachers, students, staff and administrators.

Libby is a petite black and white cat about one and a half years old. She is small but has a big “purrsonality.” She loves to stand on her hind legs and welcome her people home. When her foster mom comes downstairs to play with her, she stands up and swipes her paw from the top of her head then out to her mom . . . almost like she’s saluting.
My cat, Amanda, has an infection and the vet prescribed antibiotics for her in tablet form. I know it is important to give them to her, but what was she thinking? Right now Amanda is hiding under the couch and my arm is all scratched up and the pill flew off somewhere that I can’t find it. Help!
Students at Lanigan Elementary School wrapped up the month of January with an assembly that lauded effort, attendance and tolerance. The school-wide ceremony, held Jan. 29, included a demonstration by the G. Ray Bodley High School cheerleaders who belted out words of encouragement and cheered about the Fulton City School District’s behavioral expectations.
