Celebrate President’s Day with a visit to a presidential site. In the quiet little town of East Aurora, which ironically is west of Aurora, NY, is the law office of Millard Fillmore, the nation’s 13th president. The small 1825 building has been restored to that era and includes some of the original Fillmore furniture. Fillmore was born in a log cabin in Summerhill, NY.
There were plenty of reasons to smile at Fairgrieve Elementary School on Friday, as local dentist Frank Fruce helped students “brush up” on healthy oral hygiene habits. During two separate presentations, and in conjunction with National Children’s Dental Health Month, Dr. Fruce talked to students about maintaining clean teeth and gums and the importance of flossing.
During the afternoon hours of Thursday, the Oswego County Drug Task Force conducted an operation which targeted street level narcotic dealers within the city of Oswego. At approximately 5 p.m., a stop of a vehicle suspected of being associated with the illegal possession and sales of crack cocaine occurred at East Fourth Street near East Oneida Street. The four occupants of the vehicle were detained and search warrants were applied for through Oswego City Court. Three occupants of the vehicle were arrested and criminally charged.
The Universal Pre-Kindergarten program in the Altmar-Parish-Williamstown Central School District is accepting applications for the upcoming 2015-16 school year. Jean Mokwa, 83, of Fulton, passed away Tuesday January 27, 2015, at Oswego Hospital.
UPDATE 6 PM – All northbound lanes of I-81 have been re-opened in the Town of Ellisburg
following a multi-vehicle accident and heavy lake-effect snow. Thirty-five vehicles and five tractor trailers were involved in a multi-vehicle accident on I-81 in Town of Ellisburg.. No serious injuries are reported at this time.
Mildred M. Verdoliva, 86, a former resident of West Seventh Street in Oswego, passed away Wednesday February 4, 2015, at Seneca Hill Manor.
Nancy L. Samuels, 92, a resident of Bishop’s Commons in Oswego, passed away Thursday February 5, 2015, at her home.
Melt away the “winter blues” on Saturday for the 10th annual Warm Up Oswego Festival. The hottest winter festival in CNY is lead this year by the Oswego Network of Entrepreneurs and promises the best festival yet. “We will have all the great activities that fest-goers have come to love, with a new footprint for the festival!” said Nathan Emmons, festival chair. This year’s festival will have two headquarters, one outdoors in the Civic Plaza area at Oneida and West First streets and the other indoor headquarters will be in the King Arthur’s building at West First and Bridge streets.
