Nine Mile Point Unit 1 Offline For Scheduled Refueling

Operators removed Nine Mile Point Unit 1 from service early this morning (March 16) for a planned refueling outage. While the unit is offline, skilled technicians will replace nearly one-third of the reactor’s fuel and perform thousands of inspections and maintenance activities to keep the unit running safely and effectively for another two years. Most of this work cannot be performed while the unit is online.

Recent Findings Still Rank NY Among Highest in Tax Collections

Recent findings by the Tax Foundation, a Washington-based research organization, should serve as a reminder to the State Legislature and the Governor during this year’s budget negotiations that New York needs to decrease spending, reduce state mandates, and cut property and income taxes. According to the study, “Facts and Figures 2015: How Does Your State Compare,” New York ranked number one in state and local tax burdens, surpassing New Jersey and Connecticut.

Maple Producers Host Maple Weekends

Several local maple producers will host tours from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 21 and 22, and the following weekend, March 28 and 29, for the New York State Maple Producers Weekends. Maple fanatics can visit these businesses to see the how sap is collected from maple trees, boiled, and transformed into delicious maple syrup.
