Volney Elementary students truly displayed their love of reading as they celebrated Read Across America Week and Dr. Seuss’ birthday. Read Across America is an annual event recognized by the National Education Association that promotes reading for fun.

Jonathan Mooney, writer and learning activist, is scheduled to present at Hannibal High School in the Lockwood Memorial Auditorium on March 19 at 7 p.m. He is founder and president of Project Eye-To-Eye, a mentoring and advocacy non-profit organization for students with learning differences.

The Oswego Fire Department and Domino’s are teaming up again this year to help save lives, one pizza delivery at a time. Customers ordering pizza delivery from the Oswego Domino’s during the month of March may see a firetruck and firefighters helping to deliver an important safety message along with their pizza – Smoke Alarms Save Lives! Participating customers may even get their pizza for free.

The Ancient Order of Hibernians will hold a St. Patrick’s Day party on March 15. It will be held at the Polish Home in Fulton from noon until 6 p.m.

The students have been involved in multiple facets of the Ramp Program, previously helping to build sections for new ramps. The tear-down process involves ramps that are no longer in use and can be recycled for utilization elsewhere. Last year, ARISE built 31 ramps and took down six.

According to the most recent Oswego County Community Health Assessment, “The County has the highest adult smoking rate and obesity rate among all its neighboring counties.” With the thought that prevention is the best medicine, New Vision students decided to investigate the percentages of tobacco use in Oswego County Schools. Working in groups from multiple districts, individuals implemented student surveys in their home districts.
