Area Residents Named To Elmira College Dean’s List
Elmira College released its Dean’s List for Academic Achievement for Term II, 2015. The Dean’s List recognizes students that have a grade point average of 3.6 or higher.

In collaboration with Earth Day, the Phoenix varsity girls’ softball team joined forces with the Phoenix National Honor Society to help clean up the community. On April 26, participants were given a designated map of an area of the village and were responsible for cleaning that area.
Exceptional education students at the Center for Instruction, Technology and Innovation recently created earth science projects mimicking local landforms that were created by glacial activity.
Oswego Kartway will open for its first racing action of the 2015 season on May 1 with a non-point warm-up race to get the new season under way. Kartway officials have been hard at work this season laying in brand new bleachers on the pit area side of the Kartway as well as a new grid area and raceway entrance, plus settling out some ten truckloads of new clay on the racing surface.
Recently, hundreds of SUNY Oswego students and staff walked past more than 1,000 backpacks displayed from one end of the campus center to the other. The 1,100 backpacks weren’t abandoned by their owners; they were meticulously scattered about the facility on purpose. Many of them had the names of their “owners” affixed to them. They came from a myriad backgrounds and hometowns; names like Ariel, Chelsea, Tim and Drew. The common thread that will forever tie them to each other – they were all college students who took their own lives.
Grace Mae Watts, 92, a resident of the town of Oswego, passed away Sunday April 26, 2015, at her home.
Opening night of the 28th edition of Oswego Harborfest will be a family party night with the announcement of another spectacular musical act on the NRG Lakeview Stage. Nik and the Nice Guys will open this year’s four-day musical and pyrotechnic celebration on July 23.
The spring rummage sale at the Minetto United Methodist Church will be held May 1 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and May 2 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. There will also be a bake sale and luncheon on May 1 featuring our popular soups and a variety of made-to-order sandwiches.
A chance to put her talent to work while volunteering was an opportunity Allison Williams couldn’t pass up. For the past year, Williams has been volunteering her time and talents by leading the weekly classes in the Art Studio at Bishop’s Commons Enriched Living Residence.
On April 21, Tony Spada, president and CEO of AAA Western and Central New York, presented Oswego Mayor Tom Gillen, Oswego Police Chief Tory DeCaire and Oswego Police Lieutenant Charles Searor with their first Platinum Award for their success in the in AAA’s Community Traffic Safety Program.
