An informal tasting was held on June 11 at the Oswego Farmers’ Market and featured five municipal water districts. The town of Richland swept the competition to earn the title of Oswego County’s best-tasting drinking water.
The Oswego County Department of Social Services has launched a new initiative, The Peoples’ Produce Project, to aid local residents. Four raised garden beds were constructed and installed at the DSS building on Spring Street in Mexico last month. These beds contain over a dozen vegetables and herbs.
The University of Hartford is pleased to announce the following local students have been named to the Dean’s List for Spring 2015.
The funding had originally been earmarked for the fire department to help cover the expense of them taking on the responsibilities of the code enforcement office. While councilors agreed to transfer the funds now, they also put the fire department on notice that it has to continue to find ways to keep decreasing its amount of overtime in the future.
Virginia Tesoriero Saylor, 95, a resident of Oswego, passed away Sunday June 21, 2015, at Seneca Hill Manor.
Merit awards, senior scholarships/awards and numerous memorial scholarships were presented as well as incentive scholarships to area colleges and universities. More than 250 scholarships/awards were presented to Oswego High School students, amounting to almost $800,000.
Herkimer College awarded academic honors to 480 students for the spring 2015 semester. Of those students awarded honors, 296 were named to the Dean’s List for earning a grade point average between 3.25 and 3.79.

Sharon L. Casler, 55 of Volney, passed away Friday June 19, 2015.
Shakespeare returns to Central New York for a summer production of the classic comedy Much Ado About Nothing, directed by Amy C. Price and co-produced by the combined efforts of CNY Arts Center and Fulton Community Theatre. Auditions will be held on June 24, 25, 26, from 7 – 9 p.m.
