‘Check Out’ The New York State Senate’s Summer Reading Program

Five, that’s the number of books experts say students need to read over the summer to prevent what’s known as “summer learning loss,” the loss of knowledge and skills that occurs during summer vacation. Preventing learning loss is key to ensuring students are able to build upon what they’ve already been taught and be successful when they head back to the classroom in the fall. That’s why I’m once again partnering with local libraries and taking part in the New York State Senate’s 2015 Summer Reading Program.

Maroun Says Goodbye To Principal Stanton At Last Character Education Ceremony

Michael A Maroun Elementary School gave a proper surprise send-off to its retiring principal, Mary Stanton, at the last path to greatness character education ceremony of the year. Secretly, the students and staff coordinated an outdoor picture in which each grade level wore a different color of the rainbow. Each class was lined up to form the image of a rainbow for a rooftop photograph.

Fahnestock Earns Pulaski Middle School Educator of the Year Honors

Pulaski Middle School students selected eighth grade social studies teacher Jordan Fahnestock as the 2015 Middle School Educator of the Year. While Fahnestock earned the most votes, every teacher in the middle school received at least one vote, according to Jill Truax, teacher and student government association adviser.

Lightning Round of Information Stations Planned for June 18 Workshop

The agenda of the June 18 Living with the Ever-Changing Lake Ontario Dunes Public Information Workshop includes a lightning round of information stations at the Selkirk Shores State Park Pavilion. Visitors to the free event will have two minutes at various stations to learn about resources for Eastern Lake Ontario coastal property owners and community planners, healthy septic maintenance, Climate Smart Communities, watercraft inspection, invasive species, and more.
