FEMA To Conduct Coastal Studies

Mayor Tom Gillen has announced that the Federal Emergency Management Agency is preparing new coastal studies and risk analysis for Oswego County. The engineering firm Risk Assessment Mapping and Planning Partners (RAMPP) will be performing land use reconnaissance surveys for these new coastal studies. These studies are for the entire shoreline along Lake Ontario within Oswego County.

Fort Ontario to Host Refugee Walk June 20

Friends of Fort Ontario will host a free history walk at Fort Ontario State Historic Site at 2 p.m. on World Refugee Day, June 20, to honor the Holocaust refugees who lived at Fort Ontario during and after World War II. The walk around the grounds of the former 75-acre Fort Ontario Military Reservation will tell the story of the 986 mostly Jewish refugees from the Nazi Holocaust who lived at the old fort from 1944 to 1946.

Each year, more than 14.5 million Americans become cancer survivors. Many local service providers are working to increase those survival rates by encouraging regular screenings. Cervical cancer rates have been reduced dramatically since the Pap test was first introduced 65 years ago and 90% of cervical cancer can be cured if treated early. Despite these success rates, every two minutes, a woman will die of cervical cancer somewhere in the world.
