The Oswego YMCA’s 27th Annual 5k Run/Walk, 10k Run and the river’s end bookstore Kids’ Fun Run will take place Harborfest weekend on July 25. The 5k Run/Walk and 10k Run event will begin at 8:30 a.m. in front of the Oswego YMCA’s Armory with the finish at the city of Oswego’s Civic Plaza.
Citing personal reasons, Sunil Ram has formally withdrawn his candidacy for Oswego County Legislature in the 20th District and will instead support Laura Brazak.
The voice on the robocall identifies itself as the New York State Office for the Aging and asks the individual answering the phone to press a button if someone in the home is over 65 and would be interested in receiving a free Medic Alert pin and $3,000 in coupons for food or other items.
We received an email from the ASPCA this morning and decided to pass it along to you in its entirety. It’s something that we did not know about a plant that you can buy here in Oswego County now, the Sago Palm. It’s a nice looking plant, but, unfortunately, deadly to pets. Here is what the ASPCA has to say:
The Oswego County Office for the Aging will present “Medicare 101,” an informational seminar that covers the basics of Medicare, at several locations this summer. The meetings are free and open to the public.
Now that the school year has ended, a great way for children to retain the vocabulary and knowledge they’ve acquired this school year is to encourage them to read each day over the summer. Studies show that reading just 15 minutes a day helps prevent learning loss. Summer reading is an opportunity for kids to learn more independently. According to recent studies, children’s early understanding of literacy is developed within their family and their community.
SUNY Oswego Metro Center, the college’s Syracuse campus, will showcase drawings of costumed figures beginning July 13 as it displays the work of the group Open Figure Drawing.
Students from both the Alfred campus and the School of Applied Technology campus in Wellsville are selected for the Dean’s List if they maintain a 3.50 grade-point average out of a possible 4.0.
This year, the Oswego Elks Lodge honored Kara Weiss as a recipient of the Elks National Foundation 2015 Legacy Award. It’s a $1,000 scholarship awarded annually for four years upon completion of volunteer requirements. Next fall, the Elks will be proud to contribute to her education at Yale.
