Kite experts from around the United States and Canada, including members of New York Kite Enthusiasts and noted kite historian Thom Shanken, will help kite fliers of all ages and skill levels on the windswept grounds around the old fort. In addition to kite flying, AmeriCorps staffer Shannon Cilento will supervise pickup matches of croquet on the parade ground inside the fort.
W. Donald Moss was named veteran of the year by Lake City Lodge No. 127. He served as a sergeant in the Marine Corps in the Pacific Campaign during World War II. He is the senior past master of Lake City Lodge having served in 1951.

Very often legislative bodies pass ill-advised laws in response to tragedies in hopes that the new laws will work to prevent similar tragedies from happening in the future. I used to work for a judge who would say bad facts make bad law. This is true in the legislative process and no truer is the case with the New York Safe Act which passed in January of 2014 shortly following the Newtown, Connecticut tragedy.
