Infant Mortality Rates Remain Steady

September is Infant Mortality Awareness Month. According to the latest statistics available, New York’s rate has remained relatively steady since 2010 but unfortunately, 5 out of every 1,000 births in New York result in infant death, according to the State Department of Health. Some good news on this front is infant mortality rates have decreased about 16% from 2002 to 2012 but there is still more we can do to continue to improve those rates.

Out Of Town But Not Out Of Touch

I grew up in the city of Fulton but since have moved away. I have always kept in touch through personal contacts or media. Recently, I was informed of a letter in the media about a lifelong friend and public servant, Legislator Frank Castiglia Jr. After reading the letter myself I felt a need to express my displeasure with a letter written by a Legislator Steve Walpole.

KEYS Program Drives Smiles Onto Faces of Families Battling Cancer

The KEYS Program “Smile Experience” achieved its intended goal, as a number of child cancer patients and their families were all smiles during the most recent KEYS respite day at the Oswego County Quarter Midget Club. “It’s nice for them,” said KEYS Program founder Colleen Bennett in regards to the KEYS children. “To have a day away from hospitals, needles and doctors. To have a day with their family and a moment to just enjoy life.”

Billy Decker, Billy Clark Jr., Chris Fleming, Rich Riggs, Jacobe Palmiter Fulton Speedway Feature Winners

Friday night at the Brewerton Speedway Billy Decker won a classic battle with Pat Ward with a last lap pass to win the Tracey Road Equipment Modified feature. Saturday night at the Fulton Speedway Billy Decker did it once again. Decker took the lead on lap 22 from Chris Hile in the 35-lap Tracey Road Equipment Modified feature and never looked back, winning by over three seconds at the checkers.
