Committee OKs Transfer Of Funds To Community Development Office

At Monday night’s Administrative Services Committee, councilors approved a request to move funds from the General Fund into the Community Development Office. The infusion of cash would enable the department to move forward while exploring opportunities for creating efficiencies and improving operational performance as it moves into fiscal year 2016, the director said.

Health officials suggest people take it a little easier in the heat and humidity. Those most at risk for heat-related illness are young children and the elderly. Those doing any type of strenuous activity in the heat and humidity should be aware of the weather conditions. And listen to what their body is telling them. If you suffer from cramps, get into the shade and rest for a while and have some water to drink.

Fulton Sales Tax Discussion

Recently, the question of the sales tax agreement between the city of Fulton and the county of Oswego was questioned in a committee. It started as a question and has blown up into this movement to re-arrange or cancel this agreement. I cannot begin to explain how this discussion went from questions to the misrepresentation of now the County Legislative body is going to revoke the sales tax agreement with the city of Fulton.

Classic Drivers Countdown: In Only His Second Start, Johnny Benson Sr. Walked Away with the 1966 International Classic

As the countdown continues toward the 59th running of the Budweiser International Classic 200 at Oswego Speedway on September 6, we look back at the next historic Classic driver on our list, Michigan speed merchant – Johnny Benson Sr. Benson was known far and wide as the fastest driver on four wheels in the Midwestern states during the mid-1960s, and in 1964 he brought that speed to Oswego’s Port City oval. Benson started the ’64 Classic from the 5th position, but ended with a lackluster 30th place effort. The Michigan ace would not return to Oswego until the ’66 edition of the race and he no doubt made his mark.

Raising Wage for One Industry Sets Dangerous Precedence

There has been a lot of controversy surrounding the Governor’s decision to convene a Wage Board for the purposes of considering increasing the minimum wage for fast food workers to $15 an hour. It has been reported that the Governor convened the Wage Board in effort to placate advocates (mainly from NYC) who are pushing for various liberal causes to be enacted in the State such as increasing the overall state minimum wage. When the legislature failed to increase the state’s minimum wage, these advocates accused the Governor of not doing enough.
