The 29th annual ALANA Student Leadership Conference at SUNY Oswego, a weeklong multicultural celebration starting Sept. 19, will feature the ever-popular fashion show, a high-energy motivational speaker, leadership workshops, a gala banquet and a concluding performance by the Williamsburg Salsa Orchestra. With a theme this year of “Empowerment for the Future,” ALANA annually encourages student leadership, multicultural learning and an atmosphere of mutual understanding at SUNY Oswego.

From advances in medicine to an increased awareness about the importance of healthy eating and exercise, there are a number of reasons people are living longer and more active lives. In fact, over the past two decades, global life expectancy for men and women has increased roughly six years. In an effort to help seniors improve their well-being, this year I’m once again hosting my annual Senior Health and Wellness Fairs in Oswego, St. Lawrence and Jefferson counties.

Youth Bureau Gears Up for Next Round of Youth Development Grants

Not-for- profit organizations have until Nov. 6 to apply for youth development program grants through the Oswego City-County Youth Bureau and the New York State Office of Children and Family Services. The Youth Bureau anticipates that limited state grant funding will be available for youth development programs in 2016.

Late Race Pass Propels Mexico’s Bond to Third Classic Victory in Six Years

It was only fitting to have another thrilling Oswego Speedway finish during its 65th Anniversary campaign as Mexico’s Bob Bond passed Michael Barnes with just over a lap remaining to claim the $15,000 prize as the champion of the 59th annual Budweiser International Classic 200 for Novelis Supermodifieds on Sunday. For the second consecutive year the International Classic went into overtime, taking 210 laps to reach completion.
