Grassroots Group Continues Fight To Save Cahill’s

The Administrative Services Committee spent the majority of its time Tuesday on an item that wasn’t on the agenda. The fate of the Cahill Building is on the minds of hundreds of people. And, Tuesday night a large contingent of those supporting preservation of the historic structure gave the committee an earful. Austin Wheelock, president of the Heritage Foundation, board member of the Oswego Renaissance Association and an economic developer with Operation Oswego County, said he has heard there are multiple offers on the building. He urged the councilors to “consider all proposals to rehabilitate the Cahill Building.”

Fall Fun Day Set At North Volney Methodist Church

North Volney Methodist Church will hold a Fall Fun Day on October 3 on the church grounds. There will be games for the children with prizes for all, food and drawings for themed baskets. In addition, there will be a magic show from 11 a.m. – noon, followed by a petting zoo from noon – 2 p.m. with 20 different animals.

Guaranteed $1,000 Winner’s Purse Paid in Kartway’s Fall Frenzy 200 Championships

Once again a guaranteed winner’s share of $1,000 will be up for grabs between the Stock Heavy 100 and the Clone Heavy 100 at the Kartway’s Fall Frenzy 200 Championships to be held on September 12. The winner of the Stock Heavy and Clone Heavy mains will earn a guaranteed winner’s share of $500 a piece, plus other contingencies and lap monies, including the already published 70% entry fee benchmark to be paid to either the top five or top three finishers depending on the number of entries.

Grassroots Efforts Under Way To Raise Awareness of Suicide Prevention

Jamie Leszczynski is making strides to assist those who have gone through what she’s experienced and, hopefully, save others from the ordeal. She lost her brother to suicide 13 years ago. “For the past five years I have been working with a close group of others that have lost someone to suicide to plan a community 5K Run/Walk to raise awareness,” she said. Stride to Save Lives gets under way Sept. 19 at SUNY Oswego. Runners, walkers and mental health advocates, will gather to raise awareness for mental health and suicide prevention.

Brennan Beach RV Resort hosted 120 couples, some renewing vows and some saying them for the first time, at the Brennan Big Beach Wedding on Sunday (Sept. 6). The couples gathered at sunset on Brennan Beach for a ceremony officiated by Mary Welch-Burgess with music by local guitarist and vocalist Don Sawyer, to celebrate more than 2,700 years of combined love and marriage.
