More than two dozen cuts loom in the tentative 2016-17 Oswego City School District budget, Superintendent Dr. Dean Goewey told the school board Tuesday night. “We want to build a revenue based budget on the money that is coming into the district,” he said. The gap was originally $5.6 million. It shrunk to $4.9 million last month. Now it’s less than $1 million – but at a cost.
“Our April 10 event is taking shape nicely,” said volunteer event coordinator Dan Witmer, who is also the community service coordinator for the Oswego State Athletic Department. “But, we’re behind last year’s pace with the number of shavees registered at this point.”
Dr. Joanne Scandale, president of the Brain Injury Coalition of CNY spoke to a class at CCC in Fulton on Brain Injury 101. More presentations and activities are planned for Wednesday and Thursday this week between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
Penny Kimball, an Oswego County artist, will return to the Amboy 4-H Environmental Education Center to teach Wood Carving in the Round as part of the Center’s Nature Inspires series. This hands-on class will be on April 17 and will begin at 2 p.m.
On March 9, at approximately 2:34 p.m., State Police stopped a vehicle operating erratically on State Route 690 in the town of Lysander, Onondaga County. Troopers reportedly observed various drug paraphernalia and evidence of recent drug use within the vehicle. The three occupants were arrested.
On March 12, at approximately 12:29 a.m., State Police stopped a vehicle operating without headlights in the village of Phoenix. The driver, Timothy N. June, 33, of Phoenix, was found to allegedly be intoxicated.
On March 11, at approximately 7:10 p.m., State Police responded to a one car motor vehicle accident at County Route 4 and Redschoolhouse Road in the town of Palermo. One vehicle was located in the ditch at that intersection, troopers said.
On March 20, a pancake breakfast to help Masonic charities will be held at Lake City Masonic Lodge No. 127 at 765 E. Seneca St. The hours will be from 8 a.m. until noon.
The “Fifty & Fabulous” Bowl-A-Fun hosted by Oswego County Opportunities includes a free party open to all! But you must have a ticket to be admitted. The party starts at 2:30 p.m. on April 9 at Lakeview Lanes on Route 3 West.
Assemblyman Will Barclay recently toured Oswego Industries in Fulton. Oswego Industries employs more than 150 individuals with disabilities and provides vocational training, day habilitation, and technology training.
