As we celebrate our 200th anniversary today (March 10) and throughout this year we should keep in mind all of our predecessors who dedicated their time and talents to the ongoing mission to make this a better place for all. The county got a lot accomplished in 2015; more needs to be done in 2016, the chairman said, adding – I am open and will remain open to suggestions from legislators regarding any issue they feel should be addressed. Again, all I ask is that the objective makes good operational sense and has a positive benefit to the taxpayer.

Oswego County Legislator (22nd District) James Karasek approached the Fulton City Common Council at a regular board meeting held on Tuesday, March 1 to ensure that there is no communication on the county level regarding the idea to dissolve the city of Fulton. The clarification comes after Oswego County Legislator (25th District) Frank Castiglia Jr. previously approached the council with the idea and suggestion to dissolve the city of Fulton for a multitude of reasons, most notably he targeted the financial burden the city is under.
Students of The Blue Team at the Stepping Stones Day Program are participating in a campaign designed for schools to help their communities. The students are collecting change throughout the month of March that will be donated to the “Pennies for Patients” program that assists local patients battling leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma.
Central and Northern New York is home to some of the nation’s top McDonald’s restaurant managers. Eleven winners recently were awarded the coveted McDonald’s Outstanding Manager Award. The list includes the Fulton site.
The State Police in Fulton are requesting the public’s assistant with an investigation into an armed robbery attempt that occurred early Sunday morning. At approximately 1 a.m. on 3/6/16, a male subject entered the parking lot of the OTB. The suspect had what appeared to be a black colored, semi-automatic handgun, and demanded money from an employee.
The Universal Pre-Kindergarten program in the Altmar-Parish-Williamstown Central School District still has enrollment openings for the 2016-2017 school year. There are also openings for the APW full day Pre-kindergarten program.
John and Howard Hall were guests of Oswego Rotary recently. Howard Hall, John’s father, was born in 1920 and has lived in Oswego all of his life. He served in the 32nd Infantry Division World War II – Pacific Theater.
The Oswego County Legislature will celebrate the 200th anniversary of Oswego County at its meeting at 2 p.m. today (March 10) in the Legislative Chambers of the County Office Building, 46 E. Bridge St., Oswego. Oswego County was formed in March 1816 out of portions of Onondaga and Oneida counties. Legislator Shawn Doyle, chair of the Oswego County Bicentennial Committee, will share information on the founding fathers.
