Jimmie James BBQ will be providing the next Salvation Army Guest Chef dinner on June 7 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. They will be serving barbequed pulled pork, coleslaw, salt potatoes, and corn bread. Members of the advisory board will provide desserts and beverages.

This marks the 23rd year of the program, which teaches community trusteeship, leadership skills, current issues and networking to a diverse group of community residents. Leadership Oswego County prepares a select group of county residents to become community leaders of the future.

A non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization, Canine Companions for Independence trains retrievers to enhance the lives of people with disabilities.

Assemblyman Will Barclay presented World War II veteran Laurence “Sparky” Rector with an Assembly Resolution on May 14. Rector’s story was recorded and filed with the Library of Congress.

The Oswego Middle School recently honored its top 50 students for the 2015-16 school year. The dinner was held on May 15 at the Elks Lodge.

The workshop will be facilitated by author Susannah Risley, who has taught writing workshops across New York State for 17 years, in libraries, schools, prisons and homeless shelters.

National Honor Society students of Paul V. Moore High School recently took it upon themselves to work on the landscaping of the Millard Hawk Primary School courtyard as a community service project.

With a performance of a sonnet and monologue from Shakespeare on stage at Lincoln Center in New York City, Sydney Jones from Westdale, NY, a student of Bernard Scahill at Altmar-Parish-Williamstown High School, placed as a semi-finalist in the 33rd annual English-Speaking Union National Shakespeare Competition.
