New Tradition Brings Graduating Seniors Back to Where It All Began

A new tradition began this year as the G. Ray Bodley graduating class of 2016 traveled back to the elementary school where they began their education and walked the halls in their cap and gown. Besides taking a stroll down memory lane, the graduates were surrounded by young elementary students watching in awe as their older classmates exemplified their future. The young students lined the halls, awaiting high fives and hugs from the graduating seniors and in some cases, getting the first glimpse at the anticipated final outcome of the many years of schooling that are yet to come.

APW Sixth Graders Ready For High School

Sixth graders at Altmar-Parish-Williamstown Central School District are now ready to move on up to the high school after completing a Moving Up Award Ceremony on the last day of school. Principal Julie Woolson gave the opening remarks to the ceremony by first asking all of the parents to stand up and be recognized for the achievements of their children.

Community Hears Possible Benefits of National Marine Sanctuary for Lake Ontario

Community leaders and members of the public gathered to hear of the many possible benefits of establishing a National Marine Sanctuary for a southeastern portion of Lake Ontario. The presentation came from Jeff Grey, superintendent of Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary in Michigan, the model for what Lake Ontario’s NMS would be based on. County Administrator Phil Church, who also serves as chairman on the National Marine Sanctuary Task Force, explained the unique opportunity the area has been given as the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration is accepting nominations to add new National Marine Sanctuaries around the world.
