Oswego County is Recruiting Foster Parents

The Foster-Adoptive Recruitment Team at Oswego County Department of Social Services is searching for caring, compassionate people to provide shelter for dozens of children in foster care. “At any given time, there are up to 60 children in foster care and less than half of the teens in care have the option of residing in a local foster home,” said Stacy Alvord, commissioner of Oswego County DSS.

Improved Transmission Would Help Upstate Power Reach Downstate Markets

Last month, the NYS Public Service Commission took important action on upgrading the state’s electrical grid. This is the first step in addressing New York’s outdated transmission infrastructure. In doing so, the state can reduce its reliance on imported power, more readily and efficiently transmit electricity throughout the state, and better allow power generated Upstate to reach Downstate markets. These types of grid improvements will provide long-term viability to Upstate generators, particularly our nuclear plants.

There is plenty of discussion on tap for tonight’s committee meetings. Mayor Billy Barlow requested a discussion regarding rewriting the city Zoning Code. The Community Development Director wants to discuss the Special Events Guide and Application. Among the other topics is a discussion concerning a Fire Department transfer of funds.

BK Nation Cofounder, Author, Humanitarian Kevin Powell To Speak Feb. 16

Kevin Powell, activist, author, pop culture curator and co-founder of multicultural civil and human rights organization BK Nation, will speak at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 16, in Sheldon Hall ballroom as part of SUNY Oswego’s I Am Oz Diversity Speaker Series. Doors will open for the free public appearance at 6 p.m.; a question-and-answer session and book signing will follow.
