It is both exciting and daunting to think that in a week when this column is printed, our current round of renovations will be at an end, and the main hall should be all painted and cleaned. At this writing, the primer coat of paint is being applied, and a thick layer of dust and plaster covers the floors. We worked through the Easter weekend with a large number of community service workers and volunteers to clean the first floor.
SUNY Oswego senior Sahar Rajput, long committed to community service, recently earned a Newman Civic Fellowship, one of only 273 such honors the Campus Compact awarded in 39 states and Washington, D.C.
The second annual Wine Gala will be held at Fulton Public Library on April 29 from 6 to 9 p.m.
On May 6, the stage of the Frances Marion Brown Theater in the Oswego Civic Arts Center will be transformed into a runway for one of the area’s most unique fashion shows and sales. Beginning at 2 p.m., the fashion show will feature some of the Oswego Players’ costumes from its shows, modeled by special guests, including ET.
Carrie Kangah and Jennifer Bouchard discussed the AYA Project at a recent Fulton Rotary meeting. It is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to improving the health and education of rural communities in The Ivory Coast.
President David Guyer said, “The Fulton Lions Club has contributed to this project for a number of years. It is of vital importance that we all pull together to support our local food pantries and the clients they serve.”
The Fulton community came together to honor the life of 39-year-old Amber Neivel after her body was discovered in the Oswego River on Sunday, April 9. Neivel’s two children, father, sister, and several relatives were showered with support from loved ones and strangers alike offering words of comfort and sorrow as the community hosted a candlelight vigil in her honor.
The “No Empty Chair” campaign is a teen driving safety education and enforcement campaign, funded by the NYS Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee, to raise awareness of highway dangers during prom and graduation season. Oswego City Police will be joining law enforcement across the state in the week-long, multi-agency campaign which will run from Monday, April 24 through Friday, April 28.
