Assistant Governor Visits Fulton Club

Fulton Rotary Club president Helen Hoefer welcomed Rotary District 7150 Assistant Governor Jenny Doane of Baldwinsville at a recent meeting. Doane encouraged local members to enhance their experiences in Rotary by attending Rotary Leadership Institute, Grants Seminars and other learning opportunities, noting the experiences are very fulfilling.

The new interpretive panel, as well as the refugee memorial which was dedicated in 1981, are both situated at the former site of a major intersection in the Fort Ontario Emergency Refugee Shelter. Located between the living quarters, dining hall, and recreational and administrative facilities, it was an important meeting place in the daily lives of the nearly 1,000 refugees that were housed in the shelter. World Refugee Day Observance Planned At Fort Ontario

An outdoor interpretive panel describing the historical significance of the World War II Fort Ontario Emergency Refugee Shelter will be unveiled at Fort Ontario State Historic Site as part of worldwide observances of United Nations World Refugee Day on, June 20. An introductory program and unveiling of the panel begins at 7 p.m. and will be followed by a short walking tour of the former shelter led by historian Rebecca Fisher.

Prior to the start of Monday night’s Common Council meeting, Kimberly Baptiste, AICP project manager, for Bergmann Associates, the project consultant, presented an overview of the potential for Bridge Street. Over the past several months, the “Complete Streets” process involved an evaluation of the Route 104 corridor in the context of providing safe, convenient access and mobility for users of all ages and abilities. Members of the public, people of all ages and abilities, made several recommendations to the plan.

Bearup Holds Off Dalton Doyle for First Career Pathfinder Bank SBS Victory

It was only a matter of time before Redwood, NY, driver Jesse Bearup picked up his first career victory at the Oswego Speedway. Bearup, who began competing in the Pathfinder Bank SBS division back in 2014, has had a fast start to his 2017 campaign and this past weekend, the second generation driver finally put his family’s Felder’s Roofing, Route 37 Building Supply home-built racer in victory lane following a strong performance to hold off veteran Dalton Doyle.

Taking Charge Against Ticks

Since 2005, the infection rate in St. Lawrence County from Lyme, which is spread through the bite of tiny ticks, has grown 95 times, from virtually zero to more than 100 victims a year. Meanwhile, the statewide rate has increased by about half that amount. According to a 2015 report, Jefferson County saw 60 reported cases of Lyme disease, while Oswego County documented 51 cases of this tick-borne illness.

Community Safety Day Set At Oswego Fire Department

Come to the Oswego Fire Department Headquarters, 35 E. Cayuga St., on June 17 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., for the free Community Safety Day, a hands-on safety event featuring Oswego Fire, Oswego Police Department, as well as other local law enforcement agencies. Demonstrations will include fire extinguisher use, K9 unit, obstacle bike course, impaired driver tests, emergency medical and rescue procedures, crime prevention strategies and community resources information

Several Emerson J. Dillon middle schoolers were elected into National Junior Honor Society during a recent ceremony held at the school. EJD NJHS advisor Jennifer Mainville welcomed parents and families in celebrating the accomplishments of the inductees and indicated that the NJHS students had planned the entire evening.
