Butcher, Baker and Candlestick maker; only the baker was represented among the a plethora of other local careers visiting Leighton Elementary School on Wednesday afternoon to share their expertise with students. The elementary students could meet people representing a wide variety of professions, including dentist, firefighter, police officer, welder, restaurateur and youth director.
The seventh and eighth grade chorus and band students performed a full lineup of songs featuring several soloists as well as group numbers. Following the chorus performance, the band took the stage for a medley of songs under the direction of Dave Frateschi.
The third round of the Shea Concrete Triple Crown Championship Series of Supermodified racing presented by ASI Racewear will be held at Oswego Speedway this Saturday with Twin 35 features on the line for the non-wing Novelis Supermodifieds.

Robert Zeigler is one of 606 seniors to earn their degree from Grove City College on May 20. Zeigler earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biblical and Religious Studies and Psychology.
Danny Dunn, member of the Enterprise Fire Company No. 1, which is part of the Phoenix Fire Department, was named the 2017 Fire Safety Educator of the Year by the Firemen’s Association of the State of New York. Dunn was honored in a surprise ceremony at the Phoenix Fire Department during the company’s monthly meeting on the evening of June 1.
The fourth annual fabric sale fundraiser to support the Oswego County 4-H Program, part of Cornell Cooperative Extension, will be held July 22 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Believer’s Chapel, 5375 State Route 3, Mexico.
The Fulton Amateur Radio Club presented the Thomas G. Cantine Jr. Memorial Scholarship to Daniel Grant, N2DRG, of Clayton at its May meeting. “Daniel is a perfect student,” Tom’s wife, Pam, W2TQF, said. “Tom would have picked him himself. He’s been interested in radios from a young age and his achievements are exemplary.”
While School of Education modernization enters its final phase with revitalization of Wilber Hall’s three-story tower, and as another east campus project — multipurpose Lee Hall’s exterior renovation — gets under way this summer, the college’s Facilities Services will move to the west to continue campus renewal of academic buildings and grounds.
