Oswego Health to Lead Harborfest Children’s Parade; Offer Activities at Franklin Square

As Oswego Harborfest celebrates its milestone 30th year, Oswego Health, a long-time children’s parade sponsor, will once again lead this popular Friday event and offer free fun games and activities for children once the parade arrives at its destination, Franklin Square. Partnering this year with Oswego Health to offer activities at the park are the Oswego YMCA, the Oswego County Health Department, the Oswego County Traffic Safety Council and the Oswego Children’s Board.

Tensions Erupt Between Legislator, Challenger At County Meeting

Tempers boiled over at Thursday night’s Oswego County Legislature meeting as the Democrat representing Fulton nearly came to blows with his likely GOP (Conservative) challenger in this fall’s election. At the end of the meeting, Marc Holliday spoke at the public session. “I’m here today to speak about Michaud. Frank Castiglia is my representative for the 25th District. I am running against Frank. However, that’s not why I’m here,” he began. At that point, Legislator Dan Farfaglia (D-24th District) of Fulton jumped up and accused Holliday of campaigning on the floor of the legislature.

Ritchie: $100,000 Will Help Upgrade Exhibits At Safe Haven Museum

State Senator Patty Ritchie announced she has secured $100,000 in state funding for the Safe Haven Holocaust Refugee Shelter Museum at historic Fort Ontario in Oswego. The grant funding to the museum will help keep alive the stories of nearly 1,000 World War II refugees, mostly European Jews fleeing Nazi persecution, who were brought into the United States as “guests” of President Franklin D. Roosevelt between 1944 and 1946.

Volunteers Improve Fulton’s Voorhees Park

To improve health and safety at Voorhees Park, it was spruced up this week by Block-Builder neighbors, city council members Norman Foster and Larry Macner, and the City Parks Department. A new Dog Waste Station was added near the center sidewalk as a convenience to dog-walkers. Enjoy beautiful Voorhees Park bordered by South Fourth and South Third streets and Buffalo and Academy streets, and join Oswego County Federal Credit Union for “Movie Night at Voorhees” on Wednesday, July 26.
