Volunteers Improve Fulton’s Voorhees Park

City councilmen Norman Foster and Larry Macner along with Parks and Recreation Superintendent Barry Ostrander volunteered to help spruce up Voorhees Park.

FULTON, NY – To improve health and safety at Voorhees Park, it was spruced up this week by Block-Builder neighbors, city council members Norman Foster and Larry Macner, and the City Parks Department.

Trees and shrubs were trimmed to allow for safe enjoyment of the park. The pile of trimmings will be picked up by the City Department of Public Works.

A new Dog Waste Station was added near the center sidewalk as a convenience to dog-walkers.

Residents should be aware that it is unsanitary and unlawful ($50 minimum fine) to allow your dog to “perform any excretory functions” anywhere other than on your own premises, unless you remove it immediately.

Enjoy beautiful Voorhees Park bordered by South Fourth and South Third streets and Buffalo and Academy streets, and join Oswego County Federal Credit Union for “Movie Night at Voorhees” on Wednesday, July 26.

  1. This was a great team effort. A true community project. This was a Fulton Block Builders block project, in conjunction with Friends of Fulton Parks, Parks and Recreation, and City Council members. Fulton volunteers are making a genuine difference. Thanks to the hard working people improving our City one block, one park, one project at a time. Fulton is definitely starting the upswing.

  2. This is a historic park, the first curve ball was thrown here by a young “Candy” Cummings who is in the Baseball Hall of Fame and is credited with bringing the curve ball to the game. He attended the old Prep School at the East Side of the park back in the late 1800’s! A trophy memorializing that event is in Cooperstown. Need to put a sign in the park marking the event!
