Henley Park Concerts Wraps Up Successful Summer

A joint venture of the town of Schroeppel and village of Phoenix, the concerts attracted several thousand music lovers over the course of eight weeks (Mondays and Fridays) in July and August. Some of the many positive comments heard from concert-goers include, “Dan Elliot is always excellent – a good draw,” “Tom Gilbo sounds just like Elvis!” “This is my favorite………my kind of music!”

Theatre Awards Presented To Bodley Grads

At the G. Ray Bodley High School commencement ceremony held in June, theatre awards were presented to two honor graduates, Jeremy Herlowski and David Houck. Herlowski was the recipient of the 2017 William Quirk Memorial Award For Achievement in Theatre. Houck was the recipient of the 2017 Quirk’s Players Directors’ Award.

Rome Art Association Stages Exhibition At SUNY Oswego In Syracuse

A group exhibition of works by Rome Art Association members — such as “Around Tupper Lake” by Kristie Boisen — will open with an artists’ reception from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Aug. 31, at SUNY Oswego in Syracuse at the Metro Center. The display will feature more than 50 pieces in a variety of media and approaches by 35 artists in the region.

More Outdoor Recreation in Schools Would Improve Children’s Health and Access to Hunting and Fishing

A few years ago I had the opportunity to chair the Assembly Republican Hunting and Fishing Task Force. During that time, the task force held forums and listened to outdoor enthusiast throughout the state. A primary objective of the task force was to examine how the state could encourage new opportunities for hunting, fishing and outdoor sports and it was determined that engaging youth was key to its growth. One solution that came out of this task force was to lower the hunting age, which we were successful in doing.
