Throughout the summer months, several MACS staff members were committed to exploring new professional development opportunities to improve their understanding of learning standards, gain personal growth, explore new curriculum and technology and collaborate, among additional professional development prospects.
A joint venture of the town of Schroeppel and village of Phoenix, the concerts attracted several thousand music lovers over the course of eight weeks (Mondays and Fridays) in July and August. Some of the many positive comments heard from concert-goers include, “Dan Elliot is always excellent – a good draw,” “Tom Gilbo sounds just like Elvis!” “This is my favorite………my kind of music!”
Oswego Speedway’s contingencies for this Sunday, September 3’s Budweiser International Classic 200 for the Novelis Supermodifieds have continued to thrive this season, with over $15,000 being paid to the 34 drivers set to start the marquee event for non-wing Supermodified racing.
At the G. Ray Bodley High School commencement ceremony held in June, theatre awards were presented to two honor graduates, Jeremy Herlowski and David Houck. Herlowski was the recipient of the 2017 William Quirk Memorial Award For Achievement in Theatre. Houck was the recipient of the 2017 Quirk’s Players Directors’ Award.
Tink, which is short for Tinkerbell, is more of a scamp than a good little fairy. She loves to play with other cats, and we mean she is a serious no holds barred player. If your other cats are all reserved and well-behaved, Tink is probably not the cat for you! She loves people and kids, the more the merrier, and purrs the minute you pick her up.
A group exhibition of works by Rome Art Association members — such as “Around Tupper Lake” by Kristie Boisen — will open with an artists’ reception from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Aug. 31, at SUNY Oswego in Syracuse at the Metro Center. The display will feature more than 50 pieces in a variety of media and approaches by 35 artists in the region.
At a recent Fulton Sunrise Rotary meeting, Rotarian Chad Whelsky introduced Meave Gillen, director of RSVP (Retired & Senior Volunteer Program). RSVP is a program where seniors, 55 and older, volunteer their time and talents to support non-profit organizations and public agencies throughout Oswego County.
Fall brings a time for new opportunities to learn, grow and make some friends along the way. That’s why Lakeside Christian Ministries is launching two new community groups in Fulton.
A few years ago I had the opportunity to chair the Assembly Republican Hunting and Fishing Task Force. During that time, the task force held forums and listened to outdoor enthusiast throughout the state. A primary objective of the task force was to examine how the state could encourage new opportunities for hunting, fishing and outdoor sports and it was determined that engaging youth was key to its growth. One solution that came out of this task force was to lower the hunting age, which we were successful in doing.
It’s official, the 61st annual Budweiser Classic Week at Oswego Speedway is now upon us. With campers from across the continent beginning to move in at 6am Sunday morning, those already on the grounds will have the opportunity to smell the methanol of the Supermodifieds for the first time of the week on Monday, August 28.
