Bodley Students Get Glimpse Of College Experience
About 20 G. Ray Bodley High School students will receive college credit before graduation, thanks to the PELL Expriment through Cayuga Community College’s Fulton campus. The program began in the fall of 2016 when the U.S. Department of Education aimed to improve college graduation rates.

The Oswego YMCA will kick off its annual “Try the Y” membership drive on October 1 for a new and returning members. During the month of October the Y will be waiving the join fee. This cost savings will be available to all new and returning members.

Student Entrepreneurs Win Launch It Competition At SUNY Oswego
SUNY Oswego seniors Samantha Boyle and Madison St. Gelais recently won the finals of the inaugural Launch It competition showcasing student entrepreneurs at the college, much as “Shark Tank” does with risk-taking business people on the ABC television network. The winning app proposal, Bunk, would allow students looking for off-campus housing to safely connect with potential roommates and verified and rated landlords, as well as view video tours of the properties.

Ritchie and Barclay To Host Flood Hearings
State Senator Patty Ritchie and State Assemblyman Will Barclay will welcome Senator Tom O’Mara, Chairman of the New York State Senate Standing Committee on Environmental Conservation, to Oswego County as they partner to host a special hearing on the record high water levels of Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence River this spring and summer.

‘Shrill’ Author To Talk About Memoir On Body Shaming, Gender Inequality
Author, performer and feminist Lindy West will speak about her memoir, “Shrill: Notes from a Loud Woman,” in a free public appearance at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 11, in SUNY Oswego’s Sheldon Hall ballroom. “Shrill,” the 2017 Oswego Reading Initiative selection at the college, visits issues of gender inequality, body shaming and Internet harassment, by striving to inject humor.

On Monday State Police responded to the intersection of Barker Road and Shanty Creek Road for a report of a collision involving a Central Square school bus and a Subaru Impreza. The driver of the Subaru was extricated from his vehicle and transported to Upstate University Hospital where he is listed in critical condition.
