Oswego State Downtown Exhibition To Focus On Zoo Animals As Refugees

An exhibition starting Nov. 3, at Oswego State Downtown will feature the work of J. Lachlan Kadick, a SUNY Oswego alumnus and Syracuse City School District teacher whose work speaks to the displacement of zoo animals. The exhibition, titled “J. Lachlan Kadick: Displacement,” will run through Jan. 24.

Youth Bureau Plans Reindeer Book Sale

The Oswego City-County Youth Bureau is partnering with the Oswego Lions Club to sell “Santa’s Reindeer” story books. The books, which tell the story of how each reindeer received its name, are not available in stores. Santa will be on hand to sign the books at the Oswego tree lighting event set from 2:30 to 5 p.m. Nov. 25.

Lauren’s Law Becomes Permanent to Help More New Yorkers Register as Organ Donors

In 2008, an 8-year-old Stony Brook, NY, resident named Lauren Shields was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy and heart disease. Doctors determined that Lauren’s condition was life threatening and in order to survive, she would need a heart transplant. On Feb. 3, 2009, her name was placed on the organ transplant list. No one knew when a heart would become available and Lauren’s health was quickly deteriorating. As a result, doctors had to place her in a medically-induced coma while waiting for a donated heart.

Cancer Services Program To Host 8th Annual Human Pink Ribbon Ceremony

In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Oswego County Opportunities Cancer Services Program has partnered with health providers throughout Oswego County to raise awareness of breast cancer and encourage community members to receive the cancer screenings they need. The highlight of the Cancer Services Program’s awareness campaign takes place October 28, at Bullhead Point in Fulton from 10 a.m. to noon.
