Public Hearing Set Tuesday To Examine Record Flooding

The New York State Senate is holding a public hearing October 10 in Mexico to examine the recent record flooding along the St. Lawrence River and Lake Ontario. The hearing is being held by Senator Tom O’Mara, Chair of the Senate Environmental Conservation Committee, and Senator Patty Ritchie, Chair of the Senate Agriculture Committee.

More Charges Pending Following Assault Victim’s Death

On Oct. 6 at 1:25 p.m. the Oswego City Police Department was notified that Deidre Rogers of 956 Middle Road, Lot 8A, Oswego, had died. Rogers was the victim, who was hospitalized from the assault that occurred on Sept. 30 at 128 E Fourth St. in the city of Oswego. Pending the results of the autopsy, the Oswego City Police Department will be working in conjunction with the Oswego County District Attorney’s Office in filing appropriate charges in this matter,

The Billy Whittaker Cars 200 certainly lived up to the hype. In just over two hours’ time and 200 laps, everyone in attendance at Oswego Speedway for NAPA Auto Parts Super DIRT Week was treated to everything they could have wanted with drama, frustration, heartbreak and celebration. A classic superhero battle between Super Matt Sheppard and Batman Peter Britten brought the crowd to their feet as Sheppard made a bold move on Britten in the last lap to pick up his second NAPA Super DIRT Week victory.

Nutcracker Auditions Announced

Open auditions for the upcoming Oswego Players’ Christmas children’s production of the play “The Nutcracker” will be held on Oct. 13 and 14 in the Frances Marion Brown Theater of the Oswego Civic Arts Center at Fort Ontario. Director Jenn Snow is looking for youngsters and adults to fill the many roles in the play which captures of the magic of the beloved ballet.

Sydney Ryan of Mexico, Team Awarded Top Placements in National Packaging Design Challenge

Four of eight student design teams from Rochester Institute of Technology that were entered in the national Paperboard Packaging Alliance competition were awarded top placements for excellence in design. The teams were part of the alliance’s annual student design challenge and recognized recently at Pack Expo International, one of the largest trade shows for the packaging industry held in Las Vegas, Sept. 25-27.

OCO’s SAF Program, Community Partners Recognize 30th Anniversary of Domestic Violence Awareness Month

30 years ago, victim service providers and survivors of domestic violence launched a nationwide effort to raise awareness of the epidemic of domestic violence. Over the last three decades, much progress has been made to support domestic violence victims and survivors, to hold abuser accountable, and to create and update legislation to further those goals.
