Generosity To Golisano Grows In Sandy Creek District

Lynn Dumas, a third grade student at Sandy Creek Elementary was looking for a way to raise money, so she created what she called fidgets: flour filled balloons that students could squeeze to ease stress or anxiety and help them focus in the classroom. She created the fidgets at home and sold them to her friends and classmates, earning about $20 for her efforts. It’s what she did with the money that showed her true spirit of generosity.

SUNY Oswego public justice faculty member Jaclyn Schildkraut, an author and internationally quoted expert on mass shootings, started a drive to collect Christmas cards for children who lost parents in the Oct. 1 mass shooting in Las Vegas. The modest effort has taken off thanks to "an avalanche of support, love, and kindness" and she now has a goal of 1,000 cards by Dec. 13, Schildkraut said.

‘Avalanche Of Support’ Helps Oswego Faculty Member Collect Cards For Children of Las Vegas Shooting Victims

SUNY Oswego public justice faculty member Jaclyn Schildkraut, an author and internationally quoted expert on mass shootings, wanted to bring some relief to children who lost parents in the Oct. 1 mass shooting in Las Vegas that killed 58 and injured another 546. What started as a simple Facebook post asking friends to help sign holiday cards snowballed into a larger movement.

75 loads of gravel were used to improve large sections of the trail. Dump trucks and other equipment were provided by Parker’s Excavation/Tree Service, Brian Wallis and the Oswego County ATV Club.

Local Snowmobile Club Rebuilds Five Miles of Trail Over the Summer

The volunteers who maintain snowmobile trails are just as busy in the summer with pre-season snowmobile preparations as they are in the winter – brushing trails, fixing and replacing bridges, working with landowners and securing the permits and permissions needed to continue to use trails on state lands. There may be no snow, but a club’s work never ends.
