Families may visit Oswego’s museums for free during the city’s annual tree lighting celebration Saturday Nov. 25. Museums in the historic Port City will be open with free admission from 1 to 5 p.m. From 2:30 to 5 p.m. Santa Claus will be at City Hall (second floor).
The Oswego State men’s basketball team was unable to pick up its first victory of the season on Sunday with a 103-90 loss to Elmira College in the host school’s annual tip-off tournament consolation game. Oswego’s loss drops the team record to 0-2 on the year.
The Oswego State women’s ice hockey team dropped a 4-0 contest at nationally-ranked Plattsburgh on Sunday afternoon. With the loss, the Lakers are now 3-4-0 overall and 1-3-0 in league play while the No. 2/2 Cardinals improve to 5-1-0, 4-0-0.

Satellite imagery, 3D modeling, data-visualization maps: At SUNY Oswego, the tools of technology and the sciences are moving traditional humanities — history, philosophy, literature and languages — forward. Software usability, the ethics of technology, awareness of multicultural scientific advances: At the college, the values and thinking of the humanities are infusing the sciences and arts.
Catholic Charities of Oswego County hosted an open house Nov. 9 that featured a blessing by Most Rev. Robert J. Cunningham, Bishop of the Diocese of Syracuse, a ribbon cutting, and a throng of visitors curious to see the new location. Mary-Margaret Pekow, executive director, said, “The turnout was heartwarming, and our staff was extremely proud to host tours and show off out beautiful new facility.”
The planetarium’s director, Dr. Scott Roby of the college’s physics department, will point out the bright stars and constellations visible in early winter evenings and give a lighthearted version of some of the mythological tales behind the constellations.

Hundreds of SUNY Oswego students have explored a variety of career fields, networked with professionals, toured facilities and developed new connections with each other, faculty, employers and alumni, thanks to the Boniface Unendowed Career Planning Student Fund. The fund, established by 1992 SUNY Oswego alumni Thomas Jr. and Maria Parengkuan Boniface, has enabled the college’s Office of Career Services to host a wide variety of industry-specific events and opportunities.
The hour-long, narrated ballet features a lively cast of characters, some well-known, such as Dasher, some new, such as the reindeer Peppermint, Sir Ralph Elf, and two slightly confused penguins. The cast includes Stephen Huffaker of Phoenix (Dasher and Dancer) and Sarah Fisch of Fulton (Cocoa and Pepper).
