Our military service members make tremendous sacrifices every day of the year protecting our freedoms. Not only are they putting their lives on the line, they have to do it thousands of miles away from family and friends. It is a sacrifice that is always hardest during the holiday season.
Many of our service members, including those serving on Fort Drum, will be spending the holidays on out-of-state installations, overseas or in a military or veterans’ hospital.

With Oswego Speedway’s 2017 campaign officially in the history books as of last Saturday night’s championship banquet at the Lake Ontario Event and Conference Center in Oswego, officials are pleased to announce dates for the track’s 2018 campaign, which will be the 68th annual season of action at the ‘Steel Palace.’
Bell bottoms, tie-dye, peace signs, bright colors, and plenty of groovy music. Those are the sights and sounds that brought Fulton back to 1969 and the year’s iconic festival, Woodstock. Friends of History in Fulton, Inc. stirred up memories of the peaceful festival, a staple in music history as more than 60 people attended Friends of History in Fulton’s “Remembering Woodstock” event, reliving the magic with a themed buffet dinner, memorabilia of the time, and the musical stylings of Mike MacDonald playing some of the front runners from the festival. According to three guests who were in attendance at the original Woodstock festival nearly 50 years ago, the nostalgia was real.
Mexico Academy and Central School District students could be nearly halfway to obtaining a bachelor’s degree by the time they graduate if they enroll in an abundance of college offerings at Mexico High School. High School Principal Ryan Lanigan said it is important to plant those foundational seeds as soon as students arrive as freshmen so they and their families can begin to plan ahead for their post-secondary education.
An acclaimed pianist from South Africa will perform the next LaVeck Concert in Pulaski at 7:30 p.m., November 11. Tinus Botha of North-West University School of Music and Conservatory in Potchefstroom, South Africa, will perform a solo piano recital of pieces by Classical masters Schubert, Schumann, Mendelssohn and Chopin, as well as Alexander Scriabin’s Nocturne for the Left Hand Alone.
