January is selected for two reasons. First, during January fewer people donate because of the cold and flu season and inclement weather. Second, given that many people make resolutions in January, the American Red Cross hopes people will consider making a New Year’s resolution to become regular blood donors.

Oswego County Legislature Chairman Shane Broadwell (District 17, Scriba) announced appointments to the County Legislature’s standing committees for 2018. The seven committees oversee departments of county government and make budgetary and policy recommendations to the full Legislature.
SUNY Canton’s deans congratulate students for their academic success during the fall 2017 semester. Dean’s List recognizes full-time students who have earned a GPA between 3.25 and 3.74.

The New Horizons Chorus is beginning to prepare for its spring and summer season and invites new singers to join. The chorus will be singing a selection of songs about sunshine and rain with some rainbow songs to bridge the gap. Included will be such numbers as, “Don’t Let the Rain Come Down,” “Singing in the Rain,” “Raining Sunshine,” “Blue Skies,” and “Sun is Gonna Shine.” Also, “Over the Rainbow” and “I’m Always Chasing Rainbows.”
Oswego County Opportunities recently presented longevity awards to accounting specialists Sue Metcalf and John Halstead for 25 years of service to OCO and its consumers.
State Senator Patty Ritchie recently made the trip to Prescott, Ontario, Canada, to join nearly 40 leaders from both sides of the New York-Canadian border to discuss ways the United States and Canada can work together to improve trade, tourism and relations between the two nations.
