St. Baldrick’s Organizers: ‘We Are Having A Party!’

This year’s St. Baldrick’s Day in Oswego head-shaving fundraiser for childhood cancer research funds will have a more family-friendly feel to it. Planning committee member Terra Pritchard said, “We want families to come and have a good time, whether they know anyone shaving or not.” To that end, there will be face-painting, cotton candy and popcorn, live music and more.

Porky and Buddy Pet Health – Reporting Suspected Animal Abuse

I am “friends” on Facebook with a guy who talks all the time about his dogs. I say “friends” in quotes because I don’t really know him or even where he lives, but somewhere around here I think. Anyway, he has started to talk about his dogs in a way that makes me worried that there might be some animal cruelty or at least neglect going on. What I mean is that he admits that one of his dogs got Lyme disease (he thinks) but has never taken her to a vet. And he says weird things about alpha dogs that make me think the he doesn’t really understand that concept but is using it to encourage his dogs to fight with each other.

State Budget Continues to Burden Taxpayers

As has become an Albany tradition, the budget was passed in the early morning hours having been for the most part negotiated by what is known as “four men in a room” – the Governor, the Speaker of the Assembly, the Majority Leader of the Senate and the Leader of the Independent Democratic Conference of the Senate. The massive $168.3 billion budget is bigger than any other state’s budget with the exception of California, a state with twice as many people as New York.

County Recognizes Infant Immunization Week

The Oswego County Legislature’s Health Committee presented a proclamation to the Oswego County Health Department in recognition of National Infant Immunization Week scheduled for April 21 to 28. The annual recognition began in 1994 to raise awareness about the importance of early vaccination when babies and young children are most vulnerable and before they are exposed to more than a dozen serious childhood diseases.
