DEC Announces $78 Million In Grant Funding Now Available For Water Quality Protection Projects Across The State

New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) Commissioner Basil Seggos today announced the availability of funds for water quality improvement and protection projects. The funding is part of the millions of dollars now available through the Consolidated Funding Application recently announced by Governor Kathy Hochul for a wide range of programs. This year, at least $78 million is available through DEC’s Water Quality Improvement Project (WQIP) program and up to $3 million is available through DEC’s Non-agriculture Nonpoint Source Planning and Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) Mapping Grant (NPG) program.

U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, member of the Senate Agriculture, Nutrition, & Forestry Committee, sent a letter to U.S. Forest Service Chief Randy Moore calling on the U.S. Forest Service to stand ready to support any request from Canada for American support in suppressing the spread of wildfires in Quebec. The wildfires are causing smoke that is blanketing New York State—much of New York State is under an air quality alert and on Tuesday, June 6, New York City briefly ranked as having the worst air quality of any city in the world.

New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) Commissioner Basil Seggos today announced new and continued efforts planned for the 2023 outdoor recreation season to protect public safety and promote sustainable recreation in the Adirondack and Catskill Forest Preserve. DEC’s actions are designed specifically to improve Adirondack and Catskill visitor safety and build on ongoing wilderness protection support strategies to improve safety, sustainability, and equitable access of those enjoying the outdoors during the upcoming warm weather months.
