
FULTON, NY – On Wednesday, the New York State Police Special Investigations Unit concluded a joint investigation with the city of Fulton Police Department into the possession and distribution of untaxed cigarettes in the city of Fulton and surrounding areas.

A search warrant was executed at a storage facility in the town of Van Buren that resulted in the seizure of nearly one million illegal cigarettes (4,903 cartons) with an estimated value of $ 210,829.
The following subject was arrested as a result of the combined enforcement action:
• Miguel Espinosa, 46, LKA of 91 Somers Drive, Fulton.
Criminal Charges:
• Criminal Tax Fraud – 2nd Degree (Class C – Felony) Violation of Section 1805 NY Tax Law
• Attempts to Evade / Defeat Cigarette Tax (Class D Felony) Violation of Section 1814 (A) NY Tax Law.

• Possession and Transports of 10,000 or more unstamped cigarettes (Class E Felony) Violation of Section 1814 (C) (2) NY Tax Law
Espinosa was arraigned in the Town of Lysander Court.
He was remanded to Onondaga County Sheriff on $25,000 cash/$50,000 bond.
