Nursing Assistant Students at BOCES Honored at Pinning Ceremony

High School students completing the Career and Technical Education Nursing Assistant program at Oswego County BOCES were honored at an end-of-the-year pinning ceremony.

BOCES Career and Technical Education student Courtney Redhead from the Phoenix Central School District accepts a Cadusa pin from Nursing Assistant Instructor Lori Giverson as confirmation of her completion of the Nursing Assistant program. Looking on is RN Clinical Instructor Patricia Brancato. Redhead was a class speaker from the morning program, and shared her classes’ journey from their first to last day of clinical.

The Nursing Assistant program combines classroom theory with work-based learning opportunities to provide students with the skills needed to obtain the New York State Nurse Aide Certification.

Fourteen students from the morning program and twenty-one from the afternoon program gained first-hands knowledge about the profession of nursing through clinical experiences in area hospitals and long-term care facilities and were honored for their hard work and dedication to educational excellence at the ceremony.

Special recognition was given to students from the morning and afternoon classes with the highest clinical grade:

Courtney Redhead, Dystanee Dullen Phoenix and Brittney Hilton (all of Phoenix), highest medical terminology final grade; Jacklyn Foster (Pulaski), Alisha Stevens (Mexico) and Hannah Scott (Fulton), highest final exam grade; Tyesha Webb (Sandy Creek), Cheyenne Ransier (Mexico) and Marissa Lopergola (Central Square), highest employment packet grade; Amber Crews and Hannah Scott, and highest overall grade; Jacklyn Foster, Cheyenne Ransier (Mexico) and Marissa Lopergola.

Also, the Dr. Stern Most Improved Award was presented to Alisha Stevens (Mexico) and Marissa Lopergola.

Following the special recognition, lead Instructor Lori Giverson and RN Clinical Instructor Patricia Brancato presented each honoree with a Cadusa pin. As confirmation of their completion of the program, the group of honorees recited the traditional oath taken by new nurses called the Nightingale Pledge.
