OSWEGO – Quilt With Passion brought to Oswego by long-time community leader Julie Burger, officially opened September 1 at 142 W. Second St.
Burger is a 34-year veteran of teaching in the Oswego City School District, most recently retiring as the principal of Frederick E. Leighton Elementary School.

For the past 14 years, Burger and her two partners have operated a long-arm quilting business known as Quilts Complete!, a quilt finishing service.
The newest adventure in Burger’s “retirement” plan is opening Quilt With Passion.
“If you can push a peddle, I can make you a quilter!” Burger said.
Quilt With Passion will feature a classroom setting with design wall space, individual tables, comfortable chairs, and pressing/cutting station.
The object is to prove that, literally, anyone can learn to quilt.
Burger will oversee all quilting efforts and provide instruction aboutt the correct path of any pattern, setting hard completion dates and realistic goals.
“No one wants to have an unfinished quilt and we have the formula to prevent that from happening.” Burger said. “Create, watch, learn, laugh, make friends and get away from it all. This is the philosophy of Quilt With Passion! You can come here and get immersed in your quilt with no outside distractions.”
Burger is certified in all methods and techniques of quilt instruction, including applique, traditional and paper piecing through Judy Niemeyer of Quiltworx, an international, award-winning quilt company.
From beginner and intermediate to advanced, small projects to large quilts and bags, Burger has the expertise you want.
It has been several years without a sewing based, brick and mortar storefront based in Oswego.
“This is just what Oswego needs,” said Sandy Swiech, a local craft hobbyist. “An alternative to big box stores, run by an expert in their field. I will always buy from locally owned first, whenever possible.”
Burger excels in helping beginners with no previous knowledge or experience and will also be available to create advanced challenges in quilting.
Coming up in the near future, Burger will be offering sewing machine sales and Block of the Month Quilting sign-ups.
Specialty classes for October, November and December are forming now.
