FULTON – The Mount Adnah Preservation Foundation, Inc., a 501 (C)-3 not for profit charitable organization, Is celebrating its 25th year of fundraising to benefit the Mount Adnah Cemetery, located in Fulton.
On this special occasion, the directors of the founation are reflecting on the last 25 years and giving a brief history of its accomplishments.
The purpose of the foundation is to preserve, promote and protect Mountt. Adnah Cemetery, Its natural resources and its rich cultural and historical heritage, and to aid in maintaining and restoring its buildings, monuments and grounds.
The foundation was successful in having Mount Adnah Cemetery listed on the State and National Register of historic sites in 2001.
This signifies the historical importance of our rural cemetery created in 1851.
With the generous support of the many friends of Mount Adnah, we have accomplished the following major tasks in the past 25 years:
1. Eliminated past Mount Adnah Cemetery debt of approximately $48,000.
2. Repaired and replaced equipment for the maintenance of the Cemetery.
3. Created the Case Chapel Memorial Garden at the site of the former Case Chapel.
4. Created a Memorial Brick Walkway in the garden. The public has purchased 313 inscribed memorial bricks in loving memory of their loved ones, whether buried in Mount Adnah Cemetery or elsewhere. 5. Repaired and painted the buildings at the cemetery.
6 Repaired roads and water lines at the cemetery.
7. Replaced the arch over the main entrance.
8. Replaced, repaired and painted the cemetery fencing along East Broadway
9. Replaced the back gate at the cemetery.
10. Repaired the five crumbling mausoleums in the hillside at the cemetery.
11. Trimmed trees and removed old decayed trees at the cemetery.
12. Planted new trees and landscaped newly opened areas of the cemetery.
13. Created an endowment fund, with the income paid to the cemetery for future upkeep and maintenance.
Current and on-going projects the foundation is funding:
1. Landscaping, benches and walkways in the area designated for cremation burials.
2. Replace cemetery fencing along Seventh Street.
3. Remove decayed trees from the cemetery and replace with new trees.
4. Repair roads in the cemetery.
5. Continue to fund the endowment fund for on-going cemetery maintenance.
6. Continue to sell memorial bricks until the walkway bricks are all inscribed. Remember your loved ones with an inscribed memorial brick in the walkway.
The directors of the preservation foundation are issuing a special invitation to the public to visit Mount Adnah Cemetery during this 25th anniversary year.
We also urge you to make a special anniversary donation for the foundation’s projects. Preservation is an on-going necessity at the cemetery and the foundation will continue to be active in raising funds for Mount Adnah Cemetery in the years to come.
