PARISH, NY – The annual APW Alumni Banquet took place June 2 at the APW Middle School.

The cafeteria was a perfect setting adorned in the school colors along with the floral bud vases provided by Oswego County BOCES.

The attendance was a little low; but there were 16 members of the Class of 1967, about 10 members of the class of 1962, and about 5 members each of the classes of 1960 and 1969.

All that attended had a wonderful time renewing friendships while reminiscing and plan to return nest year.

Special thanks to the West Amboy Community Church for catering the event. The food was delicious and plentiful.

They do a great job of catering for us! Thank you to all!

There were several highlights.

We had 2 members of the Class of 1937: Gloria Rima White and June Sabo Dorchug. They were celebrating their 75th anniversary year!

Another highlight was the presentation from the Class of 1960 to Gerry Hudson, superintendent of APW.

The Class of 1960 was the first class to graduate from the “new” APW High School.

The plaque has a graduation photo of the Class of 1960 along with their names on an engraved plaque.

Mr. Hudson said the plaque will be displayed in a new case along the main hallway of the high school.

Mr. Hudson went on to give a quick update on the school.

APW dinner
APW High School grads from a variety of clesses, enjoy dinner together recently.

Another highlight was a sharing time; a chance for those present to share a memory of their school days. Some things shared were memories of band and marching, prize speaking, pranks played, and things people thought might have been in the yearbook – that really weren’t ever there. There was plenty of laughter.

After dinner the business meeting was held. There were many door prizes. Thank you to all who brought them and congratulations to all who won them.

The 50/50 raffle netted more than $70 for the scholarship fund and a basket full of products made in New York State was raffled off.

A glitch with music for the Parish Alma Mater made it necessary to ask if anyone would lead in singing it. Areta Ware offered and did a great job.

The APW Alma Mater was sung by all with no music and no problem. Most did not need the words.

Many thanks to the committee members of Mary Lou Miller Guindon, Sharon White White, Sharon DeNio House, Evelyn Stelmashuck and Gloria Rima White for their assistance in making this a great evening.

Praises to Lee Teachout for setting up the TVs and sound system and the custodial staff for its assistance with the event. Also thanks to the APW students who assisted at the event with set up, serving, and cleanup. Your help was greatly appreciated!

Next year’s banquet will be held Saturday June 1, 2013. We are hoping to have people share more school day memories, so be thinking!

We are looking for members of the anniversary classes: 1938, 1963, and 1988. If you know the whereabouts of any members of these classes-please contact Guindon with the info.

We are also looking for those who attended Altmar and Williamstown schools before they were part of APW. Did you have an Alma Mater? Where can we find the words and music? We want to honor all of you also.

We would love to copy any photos you have of classes and any info you have from your school days. Please contact Guindon or Bev Crim.

Congratulations to the winners of the two alumni scholarships. We upped the amount from $50 each to $100 each. The winners are: Congeniality Award: Kenzie Kerr and Most Improved: Merric Rice. Congratulations and good luck to you both.
